Project Leophard is widely renowned for its dual focus on how water can be used as a silent medium to create an effect or how, as a powerful substance in its own right, it can be manipulated to behave in ways not always associated with it’s every day uses. Even so, we may have crudely created many of the effects we see in Zsambok’s work. For example, painting water on a shiny surface, or tracing raindrops down a windowpane, or sticking a finger across a tap to see the water spurt. It is Gerhard’s ability to grasp those small moments and bring them to our attention again in such powerful and inspiring ways that makes him an outstanding artist.
Also important to Zsambok’s water effects is his use of white light. Water’s ability to take on colour is used to the full by Gerhard in these sculptures thus capturing spectacular and astonishing moments engendered by some of the Project’s works.
