Two figures – the pioneers of the technology – carry water butts on their backs. As the butts fill up with water the figures operate absurd mechanisms that affect the motions and momentum of their cockleshell boat with its pheasant feather oars. The boat, precariously balanced on a single metal spike, swings and turns in various directions. These movements influence the two pioneers who in turn pirouette and pitch with the boat’s motion.
Capricious and bizarre, Pioneers of the Technology is one of Project Leophard’s most fantastic sculptural artefacts.
